A typical day...

So, what is it like to  live on this boat?  We've been here 20 days...that's 3 weeks tomorrow...so I'm getting an idea of how this works.

When we're in our slip in La Connor (the photo at the left shows the marina.  We're the third boat from the right just right of the big white one.)  the routine is pretty laid back!

We're usually up having our first cup of coffee by 7:30, which is quite a change from the alarm clock going off at 5!  In "the old life" we'd go exercise, have a bowl of cereal while we read the paper, clean up, and head for work.  Here, no paper, no gym, and no work!  Rather, we have a leisurely cup of coffee while we check our email.  Breakfast is leisurely and we manage to get moving by nine or so.

Our exercise routine is delivered by the marina.  It's 390 steps from our boat to the bottom of the marina lamp, which leads to the parking lot.  On the other side of the parking lot are the showers, restrooms, and laundry.  Although we can shower and wash clothes on the boat, we've been using the larger marina showers and machines.

Anyway, if the tide is in, the ramp is just a mild slope (see at left).

But when the tide is out (remember each of these events occurs twice a day) that hike up the ramp is quite a climb.  It would seems that boat people use a stair master to take a shower!

We often walk into the cute little town of La Connor...to the post office or to the bank or to the grocer store.  Jerry walked to the barbershop yesterday and I went browsing through the antique shops.  This is quite a cute (aka touristy) little town and has lots of fun shops to browse through.  I made a huge $2 purchase of coasters at a thrift shop.

Seems like there's always something to do on the boat...washing, vacuuming (which is a 2-person job), or taking it for a cruise.

Currently we're in search of bolts to secure our lovely barbecue.  They should arrive by FedEx in Annacortes this afternoon.  We're hoping to blast off for Lopez Island on Friday.  We want to take the bikes and do a little island touring.

Today Jerry has been on the phone for 2 hours with the software company who produces navigation software for his laptop.  Although the boat has its own built in navigation stuff, we want to have a back up system.  Sounds like he's got it squared away...time will tell!  This has een an on-going headache since we got here.
